Let’s face it; mornings can be the toughest part of your day! It’s hard to get up and going because you didn’t get enough sleep last night or were kept up with little ones or your spouses snoring. And hitting that snooze button only puts you in a foul mood.
Whatever the reason, sometimes mornings can be overwhelming and getting out the door can be a chore.
But there are things you can do to set yourself up for a successful morning. You might already know these but putting them into practice is key. Doing it consistently will make for a brighter day and an easier week.
Here are 5 Easy Ways to Banish Morning Overwhelm:
- Plan out what you will wear the night before. This is an oldy but a goody. Get your clothes, accessories, shoes etc. ready to step into so you don’t even have to think about it.
- Clean up the clutter in your kitchen and bathroom. Ever notice that those two places give you the most anxiety? Make those areas as clean, fresh and clutter free as possible each night so you wake up to calm.
- Write a to-do list before bed. You’ve heard this before I’m sure but it works to clear your mind. Remind yourself what you need to do and get it out of your head so you can get a good night’s sleep.
- Take 5 minutes before getting out of bed to slowly wake up. Do not go back to sleep. Make yourself open your eyes and center yourself. Think about the day ahead and what needs to be accomplished. Give yourself some time to acclimate to the morning routine.
- Use key scents to wake up your mind and improve your mood. Orange, lemon, peppermint and ginger can really ignite your spirit. Use them in soaps, lotions and candles to set up your morning mood. Buy the best products you can that smell wonderful to you and use them lavishly. Having a few extra minutes to engage your senses helps you look forward to your morning routine and makes you happy!
Bonus:
My favorite way to banish overwhelm in the morning is to hug someone ( including your furry friend) and be grateful they are in your life. I’m not a morning person at all and will not engage in much household banter during the wee hours but I will love on the dog (who can resist a sleepy pet?) and I used to hug my kids awake in the morning when they were little. You don’t have to say a word, just give them a nice squeeze to let them know you love them and are grateful they are with you on this day.
If all else fails and your morning goes to sh*t anyway, sip your beverage of choice as you head out the door and put it all behind you. Tomorrow is another day to try one of these tips and banish the morning overwhelm.
